REFLECTION

Croissants are best known for their uniqueness, each having their own particular components that distinguish them from others despite being uniform in shape. Once a croissant is cut open, a clear view of its layers of porous interiors are then visible.

As an introduction to the Foundations of Design: Representation subject, this module gave me the opportunity to create a representation of the croissant I bought from Lune Croissanterie in Fitzroy through a series of orthographic and axonometric drawings. This module, in particular, requires the use of photography, scanning, sketching, and digital editing in order to be completed. Drawing techniques such as shading and hatching were applied thoroughly in order to replicate and capture as many details of the croissant. By including highlights and shadows, the drawings are able to meticulously show the unique shape and texture of the croissant.

Overall, working on this module was fun yet challenging at the same time. I started this module with very limited experience in shading and hatching so my biggest concern was not being able to produce an accurate drawing. For me, the most challenging part was creating the axonometric projection of my croissant since I did not take photographs of my croissant at a 45-degree angle as reference. So throughout the whole process, I relied heavily on my pure imagination, hoping that it could help me create the most accurate drawings.

After multiple failed attempts and many tracing papers wasted, I finally had the most accurate and realistic drawings of my croissant for my submission. To be completely honest, I am very satisfied with my end result although some improvements are still needed to perfectly convey the croissant.
